Bit of Football, RV Winterization, Baking and Baby Boy

Wow, this week went fast---- and I am wayyy behind in posting a blog!  I am so sorry!!

Monday was our Packer Night with a game against the Vikings.  I had decided during the day that our motorhome has such NICE recliner chairs, which would be perfect to sit in and watch the game.  We just got the chairs a few weeks ago, and haven't used them much.

So in the mid-afternoon, I fired up the heater and brought our snacks out to the rig in the driveway.   Steveio came home from work and was smiling at me like I was some lunatic when I said I wanted to watch the game from out in the driveway.  But, being the wonderful enabling husband that he is, we spent the evening in the rig.  Of  course the doggers had to go along with us too.  A whole 20 steps from the house!  LOL

Because we were so cozy and warm in there, we also turned on the electric mattress pad heater and crawled into bed during the last quarter.  The Packers won (45-7) and we spent the whole night in the driveway!   It's been around or below freezing as of the last few weeks, so there isn't any water in the rig.  I had planned ahead and even brought out enough water to fill the dogs dish and perk some coffee in the morning before Steve had to leave for work.

Speaking of water, as of today, we have the rig all winterized for the season.  For the non-RVers reading this blog, that means we have to blow out all the water from the lines with the air compressor, which we did a few weeks ago due to the freezing temps.   We had hoped to get in a few more camping weekends so we didn't fill with the antifreeze yet.  Until today.  I think after looking at our weather forecast, this is the end of camping for the year. The deep freeze is coming.

Today we filled the lines up with pink safe anti-freeze made for this purpose (not to be confused with car anti-freeze!)

Here is the little part Steveio made up to attach his air line of the compressor to the water inlet line on our motorhome.  He also has another plug part that fits on the water heater fitting to blow that out too.

Some people just blow out the lines with air and leave it at that.  That may work okay in some of the more southern climates, but here in the frigid north, those bits of water left behind in lines, especially in drooping lines in the walls you can not see, can still freeze.  Of course, freezing water expands and can split the lines.  Having split lines hidden in walls is NOT a nice thing to discover come springtime.  Also, traces of water in faucet valves, or in those faucet cartridges or ball devices like our Moen faucets can be very expensive to replace if they crack.   We make sure we fill the sprayer hose in the kitchen too.   It is not nice to have them ruined.  So we err on the side of caution and add the pink.   It also seems every spring either one or the other of the sink drains or the faucet hose connections are loose... the plastic fittings get backed up by expanding moisture in the threads.   A good thing to check each spring is each one of the fittings to be sure nothing has had expansion and contraction going on inside of it.

We bypass the water heater and drain that too, and also the ice cube maker unit which is a separate unit from our refrigerator.   Then we loosen the hoses on the washing machine and pour antifreeze in the end of the hoses with a funnel to get it down in the machine innard, and run the machine a bit to suck it down into the washing machine pump and drainage lines inside.   The previous owner didn't do that, so when we got the unit, we had to deal with replacing a cracked washing machine pump!  Soon all the lines were filled with pink antifreeze, and a good dollop dumped down each drain to fill the P-traps in the pipes.  We pour about a half gallon in the grey and black tanks to be sure it gets way down by the dumping valves, so any trapped water down in that area is at least diluted by the pink antifreeze.

In the spring --- or IF we take off in mid-winter to go south for a vacation-- we reverse the process by rehooking things up, and filling with fresh water a few times to rinse out the pink stuff.  Then we are good to go!

It's such a sad task to do, because it means the end of camping season....  or nearly.  We have been known to use the rig after the lines are winterized, and just take along jugs of drinking water, a teakettle to heat up washing water on the stove, and a gallon of pink antifreeze to use for flushing the toilet.

Incidentally, I had hoped to go camping one more time this weekend, but the weather forecast is calling for ***S*N*O*W***  and we don't care to get the rig undercarriage all covered with the layers of road salt that Wisconsin is so famous for.   Plus, we had hoped to camp with our friends Sharon and Fred one last time.  They are the ones with the new Tiffen on my last blog--- they already headed south on Thursday to beat the weather.    So we are home.  sigh

Wednesday I decided to swipe a little girl from the daycare at 3 pm.  She had been asking over and over to make pies... she keeps talking about "make apples go round and round" !  She remembers making the pies with me last time and she has it in her little mind to do them again.   We use a Norpro Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer device.

Once the apple pies were in the oven, then we decided to try a pumpkin pie.  She has also been asking about pumpkin pies, and it was time to teach her how to crack her first egg!

(she did good, but thought the orange circle was a mandarin orange
and she tried to scoop it out to eat it)

She mixed up the pie filling and we poured it in the waiting crust.  While that was baking, we also did up 2 dozen pre-made sugar cookies and I let her put on some little brown and orange sprinkles for a festive fall treat.

And here is the little Baker Girl with an array of culinary delights!

Wednesday was also a special day for us... after our baking was done, our son Dan called us after their doctor appointment... it turns out that our daughterinlaw Heather is going to have a baby BOY!!!!   The Pfundtner Name will be carried on now with a boy.

(Kinda looks like Dan by the profile, huh?)

That makes one of each for them, our sweet Allegra will have a little brother.

For us, that will make it two boys and two girls in the count of grandkids, and we have to add in the final baby of Erin and Mark's coming a week after Heather's.  She won't know the gender yet till Dec 1, so that will be the tie-breaker!    That is .. IF .. they want to know.  They are not sure yet if they want to know or not, so will see after the appointment on Dec 1st.   I never knew with our kids, I wanted to be surprised!

I went out to the rig and hauled in the last few things that might freeze up, like shampoo, cold medicine, my clothes iron which has some water in the steam compartment, and hauled in my spinnning wheel from the closet.  Haven't had much time to spin lately, it's usually a thing I do to relax and enjoy the production of turning wool into yarn.   I have been extremely busy this week working on sock orders, with over 50 pairs in my Estores and shipped out 20+ pairs to special order customers this week alone.   Here are some of the most recent creations!

For my new readers---- here is my 1925 Gearhart Sock Knitting Machine that I use to create my socks:

I am thinking that is about enough for today's blog...
and it's dreary and dark and sleeting outside.
I am thinking it's about time for a NAP!

Snow - A Little Knitter - and a NEW Motorhome????

Well, this past Wednesday was not kind to Wisconsin.  Up in our neck of the woods we got lambasted with rain, then slushy sleet and finally snow on top.  About 6 or 7 inches is my best guess.  I snapped these pics when I had to go over to the neighbor's house to let out his dogs (they hated it too and went right back in)  It was very thick and wet clingy snow.  A lot of neighboring communities had power outages and broken trees from the heavy snows, but we were lucky and our power stayed on.

I suppose it looks nice and all, but am I ready for this?  I guess it means that Winter has really begun.  Sigh.   And you all know how I feel about that????   YUCK!

On days like this, I just like to stay inside and work on getting more socks listed in my Etsy store.  I also started a new ArtFire Store to further promote my socks, rugs, hats and other fiber products.
I can now accept credit cards!!!
I have signed up with ProPay,
so I have more options with my customers who don't care to deal with Paypal.
I can accept payments from folks with Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express!

Saturday morning started out with a fun task.  Steve and I went down to our son Dan's house to help him put in a new vanity and sink and lights in his bathroom.  Daughterinlaw Heather and I supervised and ordered some pizza for a lunch treat.

Little Allegra was the plumber's helper and she decided she had to assist, and took a screwdriver to the vanity cabinet!  (we took it away before she could scratch anything)   What a good helper-girl and she will soon need her own toolbox!  ---hint to Santa---

While the guys worked on the plumbing job, (with THREE trips to Home Depot) we women hung out and cuddled Allegra, talked "new-baby-to-come" talk, and watched some kiddie videos on the tv.  Little Allegra kept us entertained with her antics, and Tiger the sassy Grandpuppy was into tons of mischief himself.   He kept grabbing my balls of knitting yarns and taking off with them.

The cute little stinker had to learn to knit too, and was busy busy busy with some needles and ball of yarn. She also put some finishing touches on a camo hat that I knit up.  Sooo enthused to be just like her Granmuddah?

Just look at that concentration on her little face?

Now for the last part of my title of today's blog...
a NEW MOTORHOME????
Oh my!

Not for us----- (fooled ya, huh?)  but for our friends Sharon and Fred!  They ordered a brand spanking new Tiffin Open Road motorhome right from the factory!   It was delivered up to their dealer in Wausau this week and they went over on Friday to learn about it and take it home.  What a beauty!!!!

We stopped by on our way home from Green Bay to give it a gander.   Whewwww  what a sharp looking rig!

We caught them in between loading it up and visiting relatives coming over to take a gander at it.  They have three slides, all ceramic tile flooring throughout, a great floor plan and all LED lights inside.  It's a sensible layout with a lot of nice amenities. The color combo inside (French Roast) is the nicest of the 3 choices they had, and really is a good decor.  Sorry I didn't get any inside shots, we were too busy oogling!  When ordering, Sharon insisted on adding a gas oven, and deleted the convection/micro combo and just have a micro.  (that is what I would do too)   We oogled and awed and explored their rig from top to bottom.  We are sooo happy for them to get back on the road again this winter, and they are planning to escape very soon.

I am trying to talk them into going camping next weekend before they depart to the South for the Winter.  If the snow melts, that is.   The warmth of Sat and Sun has really taken it's toll on the snow, as you can see in the pics.   So who knows, we might have one more camping weekend yet for 2011!!!!

Congrats Sharon and Fred on your new rig----
may you travel many many happy miles in it!!!!

Can You Tell Me How To Get.. How To Get To Sesame Street?

Oh my, what a busy weekend we had!

Our son Dan turns 29 on the 8th and he wanted to have a party at his house on Saturday... so Granmuddah and Granfaddah to the rescue to babysit little Allegra so the grown-ups could party!   (like they REALLY had to twist our arm and beg, huh?)

Saturday afternoon this Granmuddah hopped in the car while Granfaddah decided to stay home and hold down the fort.  He cleaned windows, cut the lawn, moved some furniture and put the ladder up to the 18 ft tall cathedral ceiling and washed the ceiling fan fins and all the light fixture glass at the same time!  My oh my, he was busy.  But I got to PLAY!

I picked up Allegra at her house, and then headed over to join up with daugthers Erin and Heather, and son-in-law Jesse, and our other two grandkiddos Chelsea and Jameson!

We went out for a nice dinner at Fazolis restaurant (kinda fast food italian with lots of FREE breadsticks!)   We had a nice quiet part of the restaurant, and we had a wonderful time.

I am quite proud to say all three of our grandchildren are well-behaved and comfortable with sitting quietly in a sit-down restaurant and know how to act.  No wild hollering, food-throwing, whiny brats for us!  I HATE that in a restaurant, or anywhere else, where people can not control their children.  It's not the child's fault, it's the parents fault for never teaching them how to act accordingly or how to have a simple meal out without it becoming a disaster.   From baby on, we have taken our children to nice places and sit-down meals without a problem.   And if my child WERE to even think of trying to act up, OUT the door we go for a stern talking to in the parking lot and return with a whole new attitude.

Our three grandkids were happily coloring until the food arrived, and with a ratio of four adults to three kids, we had a nice conversation with all of them.

I am so glad to see our grown children are implementing the same expectations on their children when out in public.  It makes life most pleasant, to enjoy the company of the grandkiddos and have a nice dining experience with them.

Off the soapbox, on to the next event.

We piled back into the cars, snapping all the wee ones in their respective car seats and drove over to the Brown County Arena.  We were looking for ELMO!!!   He was supposed to be singing songs at a Sesame Street Live production.   The kids had NO idea what was up, and when we got in the foyer, there was a little Elmo in a plastic case on display.  They were just happy seeing THAT and wanting to keep pressing the buttons to make him sing.  LOL  ...

Okay, NOW what should we do?   haha!  We handed over the tickets (ouch, they were $20 each for the prepaid seats ordered online in advance a few weeks ago)  and found our way to our seats.  The kids had NO idea what was coming next.

Auntie Heather had brought along some glowinthedark items from the dollar store, thus eliminating the whining cries from our kids for the high priced items from the vendors wandering up and down the aisles.  She even had extra ones she gave to some of the kids seated around us too.    The kids were happily playing and looking around and not sure what was next.

Well...   the voice of Big Bird came over the loudspeaker... telling us the show was ready to start and we told our wee ones that ELMO was coming on the stage.. to look over there and the music started.  I was video taping our grandkids and it was just amazing.  I was aiming at their little faces as the curtains opened and all these kids were screaming like teenagers at a rock concert!!!  Ours chimed right in-----  "ELMO! ELMO! ELMO!"     It was HILARIOUS!!!     The show started and our kids were transported to a wonderful land of Sesame Street=====

All of their heroes were there!  Ernie and Bert, Elmo, Big Bird and the whole gang.
The kids screamed in delight as each of their favorites took over the stage.
It was a rock star concert for the Toddler Set!

And I think we grownups enjoyed the show as much as the kiddos did.

Right before intermission, we managed to complete diaper changes one at a time, as the bathrooms were nearby.  So we avoided the hustle and rush and long lines at the bathroom that would take place in a few minutes.

At intermission, Erin was thinking ahead again and had smuggled three stuffed Elmo toys along in the diaper bags, compared to the high priced ones being hawked by the vendors.  She bought them for $5 each in advance at one of her stores.  She manages a large district of Family Dollar stores in the NE Wisconsin area.  She is One Smart Cookie!   I also brought them each a little Sesame Street popup book to read and keep as a treat to remember this night.  Allegra was in love with the big boy in front of us, and kept flirting with him.  She would tap him with her glowinthedark magic wand to get his attention!  My oh my, don't these girls start early chasing boys?!

Erin bought some buckets of popcorn and a big cotton candy to share among the kiddos.  I think Chelsea ate half of a box all on her own!  Their own sippee cups were brought along, saving our ears from having the little ones begging for a drink when the only thing that was available was soda at the venue.   They don't get soda, so we were glad we had along juice and water.

The second half of the show started, and the kids were transfixed by the light show, and at times the lights made little stars all over the domed ceiling of the arena.  I think Jameson liked the lights the most.  We rotated kids on our laps from time to time, so nobody got too bored sitting on one lap all the while.  Jameson clung to his daddy most of the time, and I think his daddy loved the show as much as his little boy did!

It was an hour and half show, with a grand finale of all the characters. Complete with fireworks that shot out streamers and confetti over the audience.  What fun!!!   But soon it was over.   Not too long to bore the kids, and not too short, so we got our money's worth.   Yes, we found the way to Sesame Street!

All three kids were fast asleep before we got to Heather and Jesse's nearby apartment...  I think we wore them out!   We split up and re-sorted toys and diaper bags and books and sippee cups.  Now it was a 40 mile drive back home through a lot of construction for me, in the dark.  I hate driving at night, my eyes hurt when oncoming lights come on and then pass by, then I have to almost squeeze them to make them feel better again.  I don't drive at night often at all, but this was for a special purpose, so I put up with it.  Once we get beyond the major highway, it gets better as I get more rural.  I had Precious Cargo along (Allegra)  who was fast asleep....

Granfaddah came out to the car when we got home, and carried the sleeping tot up to bed.  A quick diaper change and pajamas on a sleepy rag doll and she was out in an instant.  Too funny!

She woke up about 2 a.m. and crying, so I popped her in bed with us.  She is a very active sleeper, and kept tossing and flopping and flipping all over us.  We have a king sized bed, but even that was not enough room for her and us!  haha....  about 4 am she flung her arm wide so fast and hard in her sleep, and whapped Granfaddah right in the nose!   I don't think we slept more than 10 minutes at a time before the little flip-flopper was waking us up again.

But wowowowwww was she up early!  at 6:30 by the natural clock, which was 5:30 on the real clocks due to the time change.  Up and at em!   Raring to go and play play play with the toys and the dogs and whatever else she could find to play with!   We finally had to put Duchess out on the deck to get them to slow down a bit!   Even Elmo got to ride on Duchess's back.

Once she wore out both doggies, poor Duke was exhausted and laying on the couch.  The little stinker was thrilled to have Duke wear her socks on his nose!   Then Granfaddah convinced her to put them back on her feet again.  What a little goofy girl....

I popped her in a bubble bath for a while, mainly to contain her to one spot!  She played and splashed and swam like a fishie in our big tub, and Granfaddah got in a nap on the couch.  I was on duty, so no nap for me!

Ahhhh, the little one was going strong till noon.  I worked on making DVD's for each grandchild from my videotaping before, during and after the concert, and created a slideshow of pics for them too.  Once I got all three copies burned onto DVD's, we loaded up the little gal and hauled her back to Green Bay to her Mommy and a hung-over Daddy.  LOL   Then we went home and took naps ourselves before the Packer game came on tv at 3:15.

We hope she played her DVD over and over again and snuggled up with her tired out Daddy... singing:

"Come and play....
everything's AAAA okay...
 friendly neighbors there....
that's where we meet...
can you tell me how to get...
how to get to Sesame Street?"

OUT HERE Magazine Article featuring my weaving

In yesterday's blog post, I mentioned that in 2006 a writer from the Tractor Supply Company - TSC Stores contacted me about doing an article on me and my weaving.  They sent up a photographer to do a photo shoot for the day, and Tonya Maxwell came and interviewed me at length.  Although they took about 200 pictures, only a few make it into the article.  But it sure was fun to be a "Diva For a Day"

Here is the article I copied and pasted in as Jpegs... hope it works:

And here are some extra shots I took while the photographer was doing his thing:
