YAYYYY WE DIDN'T SINK IN THE HOLE LAST NIGHT!
We woke up and checked the status of the hole. The same size. That was good news. I didn't think it would collapse any further, but you never know.
We called the main Portage County Park Department at 9 am and while we were at the dump station, the workers were already over here to the campground to examine it. It's definitely an erosion problem, not just compacted dirt from our leveling base and block. (the other two levelers and base blocks are fine)
This hole is about 2 feet across and about 18 inches deep....
the top crust has given way
the top crust has given way
the dirt underneath is all crumbly and soft,
not compacted by our board or leveler.
I hope the park figures out what is causing it before it gets worse.
Another thing this station has is a nice Purell hand sanitizer device for afterwards. (Steve always uses gloves, but this good for accidental contamination)
We were fine all 8 days with one full tank of 100 gallons of fresh water, and still have some left to spare. We dump that remaining fresh water out the low point drain when we get home. Never leave fresh water in the rig when parked in the backyard. It can grow mold in the tank, which we definitely do NOT want.
When we do fill the freshwater tank up each time, we use a filter to keep out any sand, debris from the hose, and hopefully bad stuff from the source faucet. This time it was filled from our own home, so we were fine. Our home water is doubly filtered as well.
When we travel with dogs, it's good to keep them on the same water that they are used to drinking, or else we have two poopy long haired dog butts are a mess to deal with when travelling. If we run out of our first 100 gallons from home, and need to fill up our tank, then we switch the dogs over to purified drinking water bought in 1 gallon jugs until we return home again. We have learned our lesson the "hard way"... you can use your imagination.
Once our black tank and grey tank were flushed and emptied, we hit the road by 9:30 am. It is a nice sunny day, and we are going to head back towards home. We may go all the way home (90 miles) or maybe stop along the way at one more campground. Not sure yet.
We volunteer at the local Calumet County Historical Museum, We know that we have a group of teens coming tomorrow from the local history class at the high school to help at the museum. They volunteer to come and help clean, do odd jobs, and assist with yard chores. We had been thinking we would not be able to come and help, but now if we get home today, we can be part of the crew.
I might be running short of the beige/tan background fabric in my quilt blocks! I think I will have enough for a twin or full size quilt, but I prefer to make queen or king size.
I called Primitive Gatherings this morning, and sadly they do not have any more of it. But the nice clerk said she knew of a small quilt shop in Norway, Mi that has some. I will call there in a bit when they open to see if they have this one. Along the edge margin strip of many quilting fabrics is printed with the designers name, manufacturer and the stock number.
Well, it's now after 10 am, and I called the shop in Michigan. Nope, they don't have it. But as luck would have it, a fellow seller on Etsy does! She has a 3 yard hunk of it, so I just placed an order while flying on down the highway! Amazing isn't it? Technology nowadays and what we quilters won't do for a hunk of matching fabric!
Almost home, snaking our way through all the horrid road construction in Appleton... we stopped at our favorite little grocery store in Sherwood, WI to pick up fresh bread, some milk and maybe if they have their good tenderloins on sale. It's called Dick's Family Foods and carries good local high quality meats. Kinda nice to pick up your groceries in the store and put them directly into the refrigerator in the parking lot! LOL
Just came out of the store--- they had our good tenderloins on sale for $5.49 a pound, the lean ground sirloin patties we like in ten pound boxes. Plus the frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts I cook up in the pressure cooker. Then I shred up the tenderized chicken meat and freeze in quart freezer bags for using in tacos, soups, chicken salad or casseroles. We stocked up on fresh bread, buns and a gallon of milk. They also had fresh brussel sprouts and sweet corn, so we made sure to grab some of that as well. $100 later, we headed out the door. LOL!!
We wheeled the cart right up to the motorhome to unload into the fridge and freezer. Done! Now we don't have to go to the store later this afternoon when we get home.
Fourteen more miles and we are HOME!
HOME SWEET HOME!
